Real Leadership on the World Stage |
Today Prime Minister Stephen Harper concludes his diplomatic trip to Europe after meeting with Italian Prime Minister Berlusconi and British Prime Minister Brown.
The Prime Minister will also be delivering a speech in London outlining the Conservative Government’s strong actions to combat climate change.
As Part of the Government’s Turning the Corner Plan Canada has, for the first time ever, concrete greenhouse gas reduction targets for all major emitting industries.(Cont'd...) |

Strong Leadership on the World Stage |
This week Prime Minister Stephen Harper is traveling to Europe where he will meet with Canada’s G8 partners on issues of global concern.
The Prime Minister will begin in France where he will meet with President Nicolas Sarkozy to further strengthen Canadian-French relations.
While in Europe, the Prime Minister will continue to speak out on Canadian priorities, including the importance of continued NATO engagement in Afghanistan, and the need for real global greenhouse gas reduction targets that include developed and developing nations alike.
For thirteen years, previous Liberal governments allowed Canada’s voice to decline on the world stage. Weak Liberal cabinet ministers like former Environment Minister Stéphane Dion were quick to lecture other countries and sign international treaties, but when the time came to back up their talk and promises with real action, these same ministers were missing in action.(Cont'd...) |

Real Action on Product Safety |
Today, Canadian consumers have a dizzying array of choices on their store shelves.
Whether you are shopping for food, children’s toys or any other household product, Canadians can pick and choose from products grown or manufactured in almost every corner of the world.
With this increased choice comes an increased challenge to ensure our product safety laws keep up with the times.
Previous Liberal governments let Canada’s product safety laws fall completely out of date. The resulting risk to the health and safety of Canadian families is unacceptable.
This Conservative Government is making up for years of Liberal neglect by taking real action on product safety now.(Cont'd...) |

A Strong Canada |
Canadians are proud of the brave men and women of the Canadian Forces and all that they do to protect our country.
In the last century, Canadian soldiers, sailors and airmen served bravely on the battlefields of Europe, Korea and around the world. This legacy of leadership and service continues to this day, with the leadership role our Canadian Forces are taking in the Afghanistan Mission. Their courageous and selfless service has always made Canada a leader on the world stage.
In recent years, however, this strong and historic leadership role has begun to suffer. For more than a decade, previous Governments chose to slash and cutback funding for the Canadian Forces and, in the process, left our men and women in uniform underequipped to continue leading as they always had.
Our Government came to office on a promise that it would address this legacy of neglect and restore the funding, respect and support that the men and women of the Canadian Forces clearly deserve.(Cont'd...) |

Real Results. Protecting Canadian Families. |
Yesterday Canada officially became a little bit safer.
As of May 1st, three new laws from the Conservative Government’s Tackling Violent Crime Act went into effect.
The age of sexual consent has been officially increased from 14 to 16.
Individuals charged with gun crimes will find it much more difficult to get bail.
And criminals who are convicted of gun offences will face stiff mandatory minimum sentences that will keep them behind bars and off the streets.
For parents worried about sexual predators and families worried about rising gang and gun violence, this good news is long overdue. For 13 years, previous Liberal governments took a ‘see-no-evil,’ soft-on-crime approach to justice. They failed to hold dangerous and deviant offenders fully accountable for their actions.(Cont'd...) |
